As the most important fine art institute in northeast China, Luxun Academy of Fine Art is famous for its realistic painting skills and showing strong sense of social concern; at the same time it emphasizes on the depth and inner meaning of artworks. The thematic exhibition named Emerging Artists from North has been successfully held for two years. Emerging Artists from North II this year is co-organized by Pata Gallery and Mountain Art Beijing & Frank Lin Art Center, collecting the artworks of young artists born in 1970s and 1980s including Liu Zining, Chang Liang, Zheng Hongxiang, Li Yan, Huang Jinling, Cheng Yong and Feng Ye.

In all of the exhibited art works, we don’t see flaunting of techniques or abstract concept. On the contrary, with sophisticated realistic painting skills, the artists are carefully creating various scenes full of symbols; in the real yet surrealistic paintings, there’s clearly living state of certain people in our times: frustration, ridicule, strangeness, vague, alienation, loneliness, cruelty, beauty…

No matter if it’s about characteristics, plots or subjects, the young artists from northeast China have created intimate remarks for the present reality and evoked people’s thinking with different approach. Compared to the artists from other area, they might not seemed stand out at first, but they impressed people with after image that lingers.
