“Land of Fertility”——Mountain Art Foundation’s Russian Masters Collection Exhibition has been held in Beijing, Shenyang, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Chongqing since last year by Mountain Arts, Culture and Education Foundation. After the tour around those major cities in mainland China, it has gained much praise in the art scene and has been regarded as the best Exhibition of Russian Paintings ever by Jin Shangyi (President of the China Artists Association), Zhan Jianjun (President of China Oil Painting Society), Yang Feiyun (President of the Chinese Academy of Oil Painting), Xu Jian (China Academy of Art), Wei Er’shen (President of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts) as well as Luo Zhongli (President of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts). After its successful debut in Taiwan National Museum of History in June this year, the tour exhibition has now arrived in its final stop——Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.
The masterpieces of Russian art had vast and positive influence upon the 20th century China. Full of realism and humanism, Russian art plays a unique role in art history of the world.
In Taiwan, people know little about the connection between the arts in China and Russia.
Through the curator Dr. Hsieh Su-Chen’s view and Mountain Art Foundation’s research on Chinese oil paintings, the exhibition will not only unfold the history of Russian art, but also the development of Chinese contemporary art. The show will exhibit some influential artist such as: Ilya Yefimovich Repin, Vasily Ivanovich Surikov, Kuzuma Perov-Vodkin, Isaac Ilyich Levitan and Boris Vladimirovich Ioganson.
