The Current director of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Mr. Luo Zhongli, is a senior and much admired Chinese artist. Luo initiated the artistic development of realism in China and has won great critical acclaim in international artistic circles for his Chinese Oil painting.
Born in Chongqing in 1948, Luo went to live in a farming village in rural Daba Mountain for ten years in 1968. In 1980, his work, Father, gained him sudden fame in China by depicting in ultra realism the wrinkled and darkened face of a farmer. The painter’s techniques were not only deeply evocative of the life lived by common people but also elevated art to the level of humanistic concern… Indeed, in today’s Chinese artistic circles, there are few who, like Luo, concentrate solely on the depiction of farming villages and win great acclaim.
The National Museum of History has organized this exhibition of Luo Zhongli in order to promote cultural exchange and to celebrate this internationally renowned artist. To present a comprehensive overview of this artist, we are displaying Luo’s sketches and pastels alongside his oil paintings. We hope this exhibition will introduce this important artistic figure to audiences in Taiwan. |
