“MADE IN CHINA-New Chinese Contemporary Art Scene” presents the art works by Zhu Yi-Qing, Xue Yong-Jun, Wu Zheng-Yan, and Cheng Yong. In the exhibition, these four young Chinese artists born after 1970s explore art in terms of their everyday life, showing their understanding on nowadays politics, consumption culture and identity crisis.
The subjects of Zhu and Xue’s creations mainly cover three aspects including the political images of national flag and politicians, traditional cultural images as well as the popular and consumption cultural images of the idol stars and products logos. The images of the three different cultures consist of the paintings featured by digital era in the superimposition of images. Wu Zheng-yan has incorporated traditional floral print fabric into her artworks. Wu started using flower prints in her artworks when she was in university to express her thoughts towards life, the society, as well as her passion for culture and arts. Images of Cheng Yong’s paintings include classical elements, while real characters such as the artist himself or his wife were also portrayed. Cheng’s ingenuity connects various elements representing ancient and contemporary cultures, creating an intriguing contrast between the past and the present. |
