Chinese art and social growth are increasingly drawing global attention with its economic rising in recent years.
Though it’s been less than 40 years since the western art was brought into China, the Western Conceptual Art including Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, POP Art, Installation Art, Multi-media and images has been constantly approved to be revolutionary in China’s art circle. Meanwhile, regarding Chinese painting, a lot of people like intellects and painters made great effort of exploration during western art surging, yet of weakness as to the thousand-year foundation of Chinese painting, leaving which inadequate in creative and epochal character under the shadow of the great and impressive painting country.
With years of concern on the development of Chinese paintings, Mountain Art Beijing & Frank Lin Art Center, in showing part of our collections in the exhibition “Rhythm of Ink”, expects to bring in a discussion in the art community on the possibility of pluralism in Chinese paintings in the future. Lastly, I would like to quote a piece of words from Professor Shen Kuiyi, the famous curator:
Against the background of globalization and given China’s expanding influence in the world, Chinese culture itself has become a part of the process of building global cultural and artistic structure, during which, the artistic pluralism is inevitable. Neither Chinese painting in the traditional mode nor avant-garde artistic practice alone is adequate to represent the progress of contemporary Chinese culture. Both the inherent creativeness and exploration in breaking boundaries are in great need so as to open a new phase of modern Chinese art in comprehensive growth, thus promoting people’s understanding of the interaction between Chinese culture’s unique aspects and internationalism and dialogue between the art and culture of China and that elsewhere. Undoubtedly, only through the constant and direct contact and friction can various cultures reach a state of comprehension, integration, and mutual benefit. |
