Flourishing of Chinese art scene influenced greatly the art development of other Asian countries, such as Korea and Japan.  And both countries’ contemporary art has their strong characteristics.

Japanese Contemporary art has a strong design characteristic.  Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is already well known around the world.  Her crazy yet cute dots were used in her design for fashion, furniture and handbags.  Yoshitaka Amano introduced his devilish yet romantic illustrative art through animations and video games.  And Yoshitomo Nara and Takashi Murakami introduce Super Flat and Cute Culture to the world art community.

Korean artists have in-depth knowledge of materials and three dimensional objects.  Kim Tschang Yuel is one of the most established Korean artists who worked on variety of materials, such as sand and wood.  His way of experimenting and creating works influenced a lot of Korean artists.  Lee Yong Deok’s sculpture emphasizes the importance of light and shadow, negative and positive, which is another artist with strong Korean characteristic.

The striving of Chinese art scene, directly or indirectly influenced contemporary art of other Asian countries.  And those art works deserve our close attention as well.
