The images of women in the four sections of this exhibition will inevitably face the troublesome question of “how women and their bodies are “displayed” or “gazed”. The artists have frankly or indirectly given their version of answers in this exhibition by creating their own language to describe women. In their works, women can not merely be seen as “gazed objects”; they are sometimes one of the elements to constitute the whole picture or they can sometimes be signs or symbols to collide with one another in a dialectical manner. These facts have somehow violated the manner how women’s images were displayed in tradition. The word “scent” is not always identical with “fragrance” or any experiences; it can be the waxing or waning of aural which seems to precede any visual perceptions.

We have been looking for women through art, to get acquainted with their scents or to get acquainted with them through their scents; such a path is more sincere and significant than to possess or captivate them through visual perception. These messages are delivered through this exhibition that provides us with alternative ways to understand these works and women’s images.
