Since 2006, Zheng Yiqiang has been exploring one way to create his artworks: he divided each canvas into two exact top and bottom proportions; and with this method, he tried to discover the possibilities within the complex visual structures.

In “Thickening Action” series, by setting up different subject matters, multiple narratives, and complicated and complex visual on the top and bottom canvas, the artist emphasized the importance of all narratives.  He established the conscious dialogues between different subject matters and metaphors.  The techniques mingled and reconstructed the rich colors and concepts, which created an impression of seeing the unseen.

Series such as “The Flicker of Light”, “Untitled”, “Silence” etc., took away the lyric forms of art and kept a complex scene, full of rhythm, shapes and lines.  In the recent works, he emphasized on the compositions and aesthetics.  And by experiment the possibilities of simplicity and complexity in art, the gorgeous details and colors in the works formed a rainbow like visual with primitive and industrial orientation.  In these series, each group formed a space; every picture in it is a node which connected time and space through the simple form.  The artist translated the visual illusions, which generated by consumer technology, into his creation.  Zheng Yiqiang, with his unique visual presentation, created a language that is both alienated naturalism and poetic nihilism.
