Trend, a general direction in which a situation is changing or developing, can be translated into the lexicon of evolving phenomenon in the realm of culture.Risen out of the ashes of turbulence in the late 20th century, the revival of native literature in mainland China echoed to the post-war trend of tracking cultural roots; this was imbedded with a strong sense of nostalgia. Following that, root-seeking along Yellow River, Yangtze River and canal sprung up with an ambition of a comprehensive reflection, yet were drawn to an end as the River Elegy released. Northwest-style with the motif of Loess Plateau endured within the baptism of time then, and the notion of Orientalism reverberates vigorously in art scene recent years that is fostering under recurrence and introspection.

Stemming from the concerns on the prevalent environmental issues, this exhibition features Xue Jun’s recent creating trajectory and inspiration. Xue successfully encrypted his contemplation into artistic language, that is enacted by seeking for the union of Eastern traditional and classic oil painting with a fusion of their spirit. Residing in native and historic context, Xue is rigorously probing into the ecological matters at contemporary age. As he indicates: The road is under the foots. This implies that there is no detour to the native context, attesting to its necessity of rethinking, restudying, reinterpreting and restoring nativeness while bringing forth innovation at present. It is the essential and recurring trend, (as Xue declared).
