“I am so free in the dreams that I weave! Those Goddesses with pale slender legs float in the moonlight, lotus, and clouds, and those court ladies silently tread in the morning wind, all quietly listen to my whisper…” This is a quote from Jia’s narrative. Dream can be as real as life itself; nevertheless reality can also be illusory as a dream. Paintings, like dreams, are product of fabrication and imagination; and they are also the fragments of moments in life which is true and tangible. The imageries of dreams are both sustenance of nostalgic emotions and sense of belonging.

Jia’s works permeate a subtle soft lighting. Though the strong shadow is presented, there is seldom any contrast in color. The tones are light, elegant and dim; and the brush strokes are variegated and obscured. With those elements, she fabricates a space and time which is fantastic blurry with a hint of melancholy and unease. At the exhibition, viewers will experience the crossing of fantasy and reality, the interlacing of present and past, and the exquisite use of subtle color, which provoke audiences to reminisce in the imageries of dreams.
