When people were pursuing artworks and theories transferred by various media from Western society, Liu Xun went into to the wild land quietly looking for his own peace…
From Kangding, Zangu, Ganzi to Wenchuan, Liu Xun has had himself exiled from the metropolis for over 10 years. Bearing the loneliness, he faces the vast land and all those misfortune and miseries it carries. His description of the elapse, withering and death of life has embodied his personal background and memories deep inside. The artist’s experience of escapes and exiles helps create aestheticism which is actually delicate and colorful.
The series of Dried Flowers painted in Liu Xun’s works after the year of 2000 have shown thinking and discovery which are with great differences from the mainstream. With the artist’s consistent gloomy tone, plain coreopsis, forget-me-not and timothy were placed in a cold artificial background which not only enlarged the meaning of the insignificant subject with obvious compulsivity, but also covered with his own philosophies and concepts; the subjects looked like a cluster of dying and trembling nerve tissues radiating weak warmth.
Life is like flowers. They bloom and wither without words. But Liu Xun never stops trying to find the light in the dark side of life.
